Code of Conduct
Last updated October 2026
How we treat each other across BAYAN — on the site, in our hubs, and at every gathering we host.
Our commitment
BAYAN exists to open doors for Filipino Canadian business owners, entrepreneurs, investors, professionals, and the people building alongside them. That only works when everyone in the room is treated with respect. This code applies to our site, our hubs, our events, and our online spaces.
Expected behaviour
- Be respectful and professional, in person and online.
- Welcome newcomers — many people are meeting this community for the first time.
- Be honest about what you do, what you are building, and what you are looking for.
- Credit others for their work and keep introductions in good faith.
- Respect the privacy of what is shared with you in confidence.
Unacceptable behaviour
- Harassment, intimidation, threats, or unwanted attention of any kind.
- Discrimination or slurs based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or class.
- Sharing someone's private information without their consent.
- Misrepresenting your business, credentials, or affiliations.
- Spam, aggressive soliciting, or using member contact details for unrelated purposes.
Business listings and evidence
Every listing in our directory must describe a real business and be supported by genuine photo and documentary evidence. Do not submit a business that is not yours to represent, use images that belong to someone else, or post reviews or endorsements that are not your own.
Events and hubs
Follow the rules of the venues that host us, and keep selling, recruiting, and promotion to the sponsorship arrangements agreed with our team. Anyone asked to stop a behaviour is expected to stop immediately.
Reporting a concern
If you experience or witness behaviour that breaks this code, tell us through the Message link in the footer. Reports are reviewed confidentially, and we will take them seriously.
Enforcement
Where this code is broken, we may issue a warning, remove a listing, decline or revoke membership, or exclude someone from our events and hubs. We aim to be fair and proportionate, and we act to keep the community safe.
